Ancient Egypt was a complex society which needed many different jobs to support the people including farming, craftsmen, scribes, soldiers and priests.
FARMING- Most people were farmers and they usually grew crops such as barley for beer, wheat for bread, and vegetables. The farmed near the River Nile where the black soil was very moist and rich- perfect for crops.
CRAFTSMEN- The more skilled a craftsman you were, the most likely success you would have. This included weavers, jewellers, leather workers and pottery makers.
SCRIBES- Scribes had to begin extremely hard work from a very young age, and while their friends were out playing, they would usually be studying inside. A lot of preparation was put into this job, but the end result gave scribes advantages. They were very important people as they were the only ones who could read and write Egyptian hieroglyphics.
SOLDIERS- Becoming a soldier allowed you to rise in society. Most of them were footmen, and there was a well defined hierarchy in the army. When you were not at war, a soldier who help with building, and moving stones for a pyramid.
PRIESTS- Priest and priestesses were in charge of temples, and they also held religious ceremonies and sacrifices.
