A pharaoh was the most powerful person in Ancient Egypt. As a political and religious leader, he held the titles "Lord of the Two Lands" and "High Priest of Every Temple". He had an important role in ruling the Egyptian people, and he also represented the Gods of Ancient Egypt. Not only was the king the most powerful and important man in Egypt, he was thought to be a God.
The Queen of Egypt could also be seen as a goddess but was usually given the title of "Great Royal Wife". Very rarely, women ruled Egypt in their own right.
The pharaoh performed rituals and sacrifices. Many pharaohs went off to try and conquer other countries. This was because they were being threatened, or simply because they wanted more land. If they conquered the country, those people had to offer the Pharaoh their best goods and valuables.
Cleopatra was the last pharaoh of ancient Egypt, her family only spke Greek though, and refused to speak Egyptian, whihc is why Greek was writeen on important documents, such as the Rosetta stone. However, Cleopatra claimed that she was the reincarnation of the goddess Isis. She married both of her brothers, though she had no children with them. When Cleopatra's father died, he gave the throne to both Cleopatra and her brother, but it was hard to rule for the first three years, as the Nile didn't flood, political conflict, and there was famine. It was said that Cleopatra killed herself, as she willed a cobra to bite her. Many poets wrote about her, and they all said that she was bit by a snake, but recent scientific research has shown that in actual fact, she had poisoned herself by drinking a mixture of poisons, and the had died the next day.
