How to make a mummy
The ancient Egyptians mummified their dead. First, they remove the vital organs, such as the brain and liver. However, they left the heart untouched, as it was believed to be a necessary tool in the afterlife. Then the body salted and dried, and stuffed with cloth to help it keep its shape. Then the body was oiled and wrapped in tight bandages. This preserved the body and helped it from rotting away.
What were mummies kept in?
The mummy was placed in a case. Some cases were wooden boxes, others were beautifully decorated. An important person, such as a pharaoh was placed in a stone coffin called a sarcophagus.
What do the priests do?
The priests sent the dead persons spirit into the next world. He touched parts of the boy with special instruments so that they could be used in the after life; for example the mouth could speak and eat in its new life after being touched.
